Frictional force is an important force in day to day life. This frictional resistance between dry surfaces in sliding contact is relative to force between surfaces. Types of Frictional Resistance
There are three main types of friction such as Dry friction, fluid friction and internal friction. It operates between two surfaces that are moving relative to each other.
So now we know different types of friction and in case they will act in which direction. But one thing is they will always be against motion between surfaces in contact. All four types of friction are described below.
Dry friction is also called as Coulomb friction. Dry friction force refers to force along non-lubricated surfaces. However, if lubricant separates these two surfaces and this friction created is called lubricated friction. This section will deal only with dry friction. This type of friction can further be broken down in static friction and kinetic friction. Dry friction is static friction between non-moving surfaces and kinetic friction between moving surfaces.
Fluid friction acts on objects that are moving through fluid. This fluid friction refers to lubricated surfaces. Fluid friction takes place between layers within fluid that is moving relative to each other. This internal resistance to flow is named by viscosity. In everyday terms, viscosity of fluid is explained as its thickness.
When there is no velocity, there is no fluid friction velocity between next layers in fluid. Fluid friction depends on velocity within fluid and fluid viscosity fluid measures its resistance to shearing action between fluid layers. These forces depend on velocity between layers in fluid. It is a place where fluid provides resistance between two surfaces. If both surfaces offer high resistance then it is known as high viscous.

Internal friction is set up in all sold materials that are focus to cyclical loading. In other words, internal friction method is connected with action of shear deformation. For materials which have low elasticity limits and undergo plastic deformations during loading and large amount of internal friction may go with this deformation.
For high elastic materials it recovers from deformation which occurs with small loss of energy caused by internal friction. You may know that one of resisting force is responsible for producing stress in system like in rope when being pulled.
