Mechanical Load and Classification of Load

The external force acting on a body is known as Load.

Classification of loads

  • Dead Load
  • Fluctuating load
  • Inertia load
  • Centrifugal load

Dead load:

It is defined as the weight of a vehicle which does not include the loads or passenger’s weight.

Fluctuating load:

It is also known as the live load. The load which varies continuously on the body or structure is known ad Fluctuating loads.

Inertia forces or load:

It is defined as the imaginary forces which are made-up to act on the accelerated body. The forces must be equal in the magnitude and also opposite in the direction of the resulting forces.

Centrifugal forces or loads:

About the specified axis it affects the entire model, this spins in the user specified direction. Mass density of the nonzero material is affected. The equivalent forces occur at the result of angular acceleration or angular rotation is to be applied and calculated at the each element node.

We can also see few more classifications, they are:
Point load and distributed load

Point load:

Point load is also known as concentrated load. The load which acts at a particular point is known as point load. But the point load must be distributed to all over the area.

Distributed load:

A load in which is to be distributed or otherwise spread in small length of area is known as distributed load.
The spread area is uniform then it is known as uniform distributed load. In case the spread is not uniform them it is known as non-uniform distributed load.
